Home » Blog » How to Make a TreeVault Antenna Tree in Family Tree Maker 2019?

If you’re using Family Tree Maker 2019 and have a TreeVault account, setting up a TreeVault Antenna Tree is a simple yet powerful way to back up your family tree and keep it synced with TreeVault cloud services. The Antenna Tree is a read-only copy of your tree in the cloud, tied directly to your FTM Source tree. Let’s go through how to make one.

What Is a TreeVault Antenna Tree?

A TreeVault Antenna Tree is an online copy of your Family Tree Maker tree. It synchronizes with your FTM Source tree, saving your information securely in the TreeVault cloud. This is useful not only as a backup but also for features such as Emergency Tree Restore and the TreeVault Family Tree Viewing app.

Important Notes Before You Begin

  • You can only have one Antenna Tree active at a time.
  • You can only have one FTM tree associated with the Source tree.
  • If you add a new Antenna Tree, the old one will be removed.
  • Similarly, if you add a new Source tree from your Antenna Tree, only that new tree will sync going forward.

Creating a TreeVault Antenna Tree Automatically

When you first start your FTM tree when signed into TreeVault, you’ll be asked to create an Antenna Tree. If you already have one established, simply hit “Create Antenna Tree” in the reminder. Then, in the reply message, select “Close.” Your data will start uploading in the background and you can stay on and work with Family Tree Maker while synchronization occurs.

Creating an Antenna Tree Manually

If you did not complete the first prompt or wish to make an Antenna Tree at a later time, do the following based on the computer operating system:

For Mac Users:

  • Launch the FTM 2019 tree you wish to use.
  • If not already logged in, click the TreeVault icon (on the main toolbar or in the TreeVault Cloud Services panel under the Current Tree tab) and log in with your TreeVault account credentials.
  • After logging in, select the TreeVault icon again and choose “Create Antenna Tree” from the menu.
  • In the message that displays, select “Create Antenna Tree,” and then select “Close.”

For Windows Users:

  • Open your FTM 2019 tree.
  • Click the TreeVault icon in the main toolbar or from under the TreeVault Cloud Services panel.
  • Log in if asked, using your email address and password for TreeVault.
  • Select “Create Antenna Tree” from the drop-down.
  • Click “Create Antenna Tree,” then “Close” to complete.

The information from your Source tree will now be uploaded to TreeVault in the background. Progress can be found under the Current Tree tab.

Final Thoughts

Building a TreeVault Antenna Tree is a essential step to safeguard your genealogical research. It will keep your family history secure and within reach, even during times of crisis. Whether you are on Windows or Mac, the process is simple and only a few clicks away!

By having your Antenna Tree updated, you will be able to access your family tree whenever and wherever you want. It’s a genius method of future-proofing your research and keeping your legacy alive for generations to come.
